Academic Studies of Vajrayana
Interview with Urban Hammar, PhD (Stockholm University)
- Why did you get interested in Vajrayana and chosen it for your doctoral dissertation in 2005? How did you start your research?
- What is the academic studies of Vajrayana for you?
- Had you any algorithm for reading and interpretation of ancient tantric texts? Or did you have to design the algorithm by yourself?
- What are the features of Tibetan Buddhist texts you studied (on your opinion)?
- What are your main conclusion you received while researching the Kālacakra texts?
- Let us consider concepts of Ādibuddha or Paramādibuddha in Vajrayana – can we named them archetypical images? Or they designate not the certain images or plots for meditations but rather the abstract principle or rule or even the low of the construction of images and plots (including the pañcatathāgatas)? Well then, what do you think about the possible connection among Ādibuddha and Tathāgatas (on the conventional and on the eternal levels) if Ādibuddha is the very principle of causelessness (I mean the discussion around the translation of term "niranvaya")?
- What would you advise to beginning researchers? ≫
